01. Ingredients FAQs

In the US market, most widely available baby formulas sold in grocery stores contain a surprising number of questionable ingredients. That’s why it sometimes has a ‘metallic’ smell or unusual taste. The ‘organic’ label doesn’t guarantee that a baby formula is free of refined processed sugar, synthetic preservatives and/or artificial nutrients. European organic food standards are much higher than in the US, and that’s why we emphasize products from this part of the world. These are the best infant formula options available anywhere and the best way to provide the quality your baby deserves.

We offer the top European baby formula brands such as HiPP and Holle, as they are considered to be the ‘best of class’. These brands are free from the artificial/processed ingredients common in US brands such as corn syrup, glucose and sugar. European brands use only organic skimmed cow and goat milk, lactose and organic whey for carb sources. They also contain essential prebiotics and probiotics, non-synthetic nutrients, and more.

Yes! European baby formula brands contain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These are essential for good health, and since the body cannot make its own must be obtained from a proper diet. These ingredients are typically found in fish oil, but a vegetarian option is replacing them with omega-3 and omega-6 from seaweed.

Our Holle Goat Stage 1 & Holle Goat Stage 2 are fully vegetarian and do not contain any ingredients that have been processed with animal enzymes.

Note that all of the formulas we carry are based on organic cow or goat milk. We do not carry any vegan baby formula.

The nutritional information and other label content is in the language from each product’s ‘home market’. For example, HiPP Dutch has Dutch label content, HiPP German has German. To make it easier for our customers to compare products, we provide full nutritional information on the individual product pages including a full list of ingredients.

DHA is the abbreviation for Docosahexaenoic acid, which is an essential Omega-3 fatty acid. It has been associated with a variety of functions needed for good health including cognitive development, visual development and the overall health of the nervous system. DHA is so important to the human body—particularly to its early development—that European regulations require baby formulas to include DHA as an essential ingredient. The United States has no regulation of this type, which is why the majority of American baby formulas do not contain DHA.

DHA is typically found in fish oil, but a vegetarian option is DHA sourced from seaweed. Both contain similar levels of DHA.

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) has been found to be beneficial to heart function and essential for a healthy brain. This is particularly true for infants during the first six months of life. It is crucial for proper development of their brains, eyes and nervous systems. Since the body only produces trace amounts of DHA, humans need to get it from food or supplements. Unfortunately, most people in the Western world do not get enough DHA—or other omega-3 acids—in their diet.

In light of the importance of DHA in early childhood development, the European Union (EU) has mandated DHA as a required ingredient in all formulas for babies up to one year old. If you want to read more about these requirements, you can do so in the Official Journal of the European Union.

02. Formula Preparation FAQs

Each formula has detailed preparation information in English on the product page of our website. This includes appropriate ratios of water to formula powder based on each baby’s stage of development.

The use of boiled water is recommended in order to kill any harmful bacteria that may be present. You should bring at least one quart (approx. one liter) of water to a full boil. Let it cool no more than 30 minutes before adding the powder. Make sure to read the full preparation instructions for your specific formula brand.

For boxed formula, you’ll typically find the scoop inside the box but outside the silver interior packaging. For formula shipped in a tin, the scoop is usually buried in the powder inside. This isn’t the best option, but this is how it is packaged by the manufacturer. You might try a dry, sterilized spoon to dig the scoop out of the formula powder.

While all of the formulas we sell are suitable for use with Baby Brezza products, we are unable to advise on specific settings. The Baby Brezza website includes a Global Settings Finder that should be able to provide the settings you need. If you have any specific questions about this information, contact the Baby Brezza support team.

04. Transitioning FAQs

This is an individual decision. You know best what is right for you and your baby. Keep in mind that you can transition slowly, using formula as a supplement with breast milk. If you have any questions or concerns, contact your doctor.

Typically, parents switch from Stage 1 to Stage 2 formula at six months old. This isn’t a firm timeframe, but it represents an age where your baby is ready for more nutrients. Generally speaking, the taste of the formula will remain the same but will include more nutrients for your growing baby’s higher weight. If you have any questions or concerns about your baby’s feeding and nutrition, contact your doctor.

05. General FAQs

Our mission is to provide you with the highest quality baby formula. To help facilitate this, we ship products via air freight due to a shorter transport time than other transport methods. In addition, air freight offers better temperature control to keep our products fresh. We also guarantee that the expiration dates on the products you receive will be at least six months away. This helps ensure that you’re receiving the freshest baby formula available anywhere.

We suggest approaching this with extreme caution. Keep in mind that using toddler formula for infants is an ‘off-label’ use of the product. The regulation and manufacturing of toddler formula isn’t as strictly monitored and controlled, meaning that the safety and efficacy of the product is less certain. For that reason, it’s important that you trust the manufacturer and vendor. The best idea before making any move of this sort is to check with your doctor.

Our goal is to keep formula in our warehouse for as little time as possible. For that reason, we follow a ‘first in/first out’ strategy with regards to inventory and shipment. We guarantee that all formulas you receive will have expiration dates at least six months away.

Yes—this is a very common practice. You can find more information at the link here, or check with your doctor.
