HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 Formula

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 is an organic, European-made baby formula designed to meet the nutrition needs of babies from birth to 6 months.

Made with organic goat’s milk, the product is a nice alternative to traditional formulas as research has shown that goat’s milk based formulas may be more easily tolerated than cow’s milk-based formulas.

HiPP is a trusted brand with a long-established history of making high-quality, organic products to support optimal growth and development.

For over a hundred years, the German company HiPP has been creating high-quality, organic baby formulas distributed throughout the world.

All of HiPP’s formulas are certified organic by the European Union and are free of GMOs, refined sugars such as corn syrup, artificial preservatives, pesticides, and hormones.

Their latest formula is their goat milk baby formula specifically designed for babies that may not tolerate cow’s milk well, or for those with lactose intolerance. But, some babies are able to tolerate goat’s milk based formulas more easily than cow’s milk-based formulas.

Additionally, goat’s milk based formula supports a baby’s growth similar to that of babies fed with breast milk. One 2022 study comparing goat’s milk formula to breastmilk found that goat milk formula was well-tolerated, safe, and resulted in similar growth patterns compared to babies receiving breast milk.

HiPP’s goat milk formula includes organic goat milk with A2 beta-casein, a specialized milk protein that has been shown to improve tolerability and reduce GI distress. The formula is also enriched with prebiotics to further support healthy digestion.

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 formula is designed to help support your baby’s nutritional needs from birth up to six months of age for optimal growth and development.

*From organic farming

HiPP Goat formulas are derived from organic goat milk which serves as the primary protein, along with lactose as the primary carbohydrate. The added lactose makes HiPP formulas resemble breast milk more closely as lactose is the main carbohydrate found in breast milk.

Traditional cow’s milk based formulas contain two main types of beta-casein protein, which are A1 and A2 beta-casein. Some babies can experience digestive discomfort as a result of A1 proteins due to sensitives in the milk protein.

HiPP’s organic goat milk is naturally high in A2 proteins and is free from A1 proteins. Therefore, goat’s milk may be better suited for babies that are sensitive because it is digested more easily than traditional cow’s milk based formulas.

The product contains a blend of vegetable oils including palm oil, rapeseed oil, and sunflower oil. Palm oil is a popular addition to many US and European formulas, however, it has a tendency to cause some digestive issues like gas. Additionally, there is an older study suggesting that palm oil may reduce the absorption of calcium and fat. Considering HiPP Goat Stage 1 uses a blend of different oils, the risk of poor nutrient absorption is low.

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 is enriched with prebiotics in the form of galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS). These are the same prebiotics that are naturally found in breast milk. They provide “food” for healthy gut bacteria which can help promote improved digestive health.

The formula also contains DHA and ARA from sustainably sourced fish oil. Both DHA and ARA have been linked to optimal early eye and brain development.

While goat’s milk is naturally high in many nutrients, HiPP makes up for what may be missing by adding vitamins and minerals needed for optimal growth and development.

The ingredients in HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 formula are organic and free from GMOs refined sugars such as corn syrup, artificial preservatives, pesticides, and hormones. They are manufactured with chemical-free farming and produced with favorably sustainable farming practices and ingredient sourcing.

Nutrients in HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 is intended to be a complete baby formula, meaning it will provide 100% of the nutritional requirements for babies from birth to 6 months old.

The formula provides most of the essential vitamins and minerals that are required by the FDA for baby formulas. It’s important to note that the FDA requires that baby formula should have at least 1 mg of iron for every 100 calories. Additionally, they require that infant formulas containing less than 1 mg of iron per 100 calories display a statement on the label indicating that additional iron may be necessary.

However, European guidelines require just 0.2 mg of iron per serving.

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 formula provides 0.5 mg of iron per 100 calories, meeting European guidelines but falling short of the FDA requirements. Most babies are born with a supply of iron that will last until 4 to 6 months of age. Therefore, the additional iron in baby formulas may not be necessary until a baby reaches 4 to 6 months old. It is best to speak with your child’s pediatrician to help determine their specific iron requirements.

While the formula provides DHA to help support eye and brain growth, the DHA is derived from fish oil, which could pose a problem for anyone with a fish allergy.

Side Effects of HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1

While many goat’s milk based formulas claim to be “hypoallergenic”, it’s important to be aware that babies with a milk protein allergy should not consume any goat milk based formulas.

Due to the similar protein structure of both types of milk, goat milk formulas will likely trigger an allergic reaction in the same way cow’s milk formula would.

If your baby is simply sensitive to a traditional cow’s milk based formula, switching to a goat milk formula may help as it contains easier to digest A2 proteins.

How HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 Formula Compares

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 formula is designed for babies with a sensitivity to traditional cow’s milk based formulas. Here is how HiPP Goat Stage 1 compares to other similar formulas:

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 Formula vs. Designed by Nature goats milk formula

Designed by Nature is an organic, non-GMO, FDA approved goat milk formula manufactured in the United States.

One nice feature of Designed by Nature goat milk formulas is that they are intended for all ages, meaning you won’t have to transition your baby to another formula as they get older. However, your baby’s nutritional needs change as they grow so this could also be considered a drawback.

Designed by Nature is more widely available in the US, which can cut down on shipping costs and delivery times.

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 Formula vs Similac Sensitive Infant Formula

Similac’s Sensitive Infant Formula is designed for babies with a sensitivity to lactose. The formula is made from cow’s milk, but has most of the lactose removed helping to reduce

the GI discomfort some babies may experience from traditional cow’s milk based formulas.

Like HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1, the formula also provides prebiotics for improved digestion and DHA for vision and brain health. The DHA in Similac is sourced from algae rather than fish oil which may be helpful for babies with a fish allergy. However, the ingredients in Similac are not organic and also contain corn syrup and sugar.

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 vs Kabrita 1 Infant Formula

Kabrita is a European goat’s milk based formula designed for baby’s from birth to 6 months old.

Both formulas have many similarities as they contain prebiotics, and DHA, and are free from GMOs, sugar, corn syrup, and artificial ingredients. However, all of HiPP’s formulas are organic while Kabrita 1 is not.

Bottom Line

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 formula is a high-quality, organic, European baby formula designed for babies from birth to 6 months old.

Unlike traditional cow’s milk based formulas which contain A1 proteins, HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 formula contains only A2 protein which may be better suited to sensitive tummies as they are digested more easily.

For additional digestive support, HiPP’s formula also contains prebiotics to help promote the growth of healthy bacteria in the GI tract to improve gut health.

It should be noted that a goat’s milk formula is not intended for babies with a milk protein allergy. Goat milk formulas will likely trigger an allergic reaction in the same way cow’s milk formula would, as the proteins are very similar.

When choosing a formula for your baby, it is best to speak to your pediatrician about which formula will meet your baby’s unique nutritional needs.

FAQ

While the nutrient content may vary slightly, both goat milk formulas and regular formulas can support your baby’s growth and development. If your baby is having difficulty digesting a traditional cow’s milk based formula, there is research to suggest that a goat’s milk formula may be easier to digest.

One of the benefits of goat milk formulas is that they contain only the easy-to-digest A2 proteins and are free from the more difficult to digest A1 proteins. Additionally, goat milk formulas have naturally occurring oligosaccharides which are prebiotics that can help improve gut health.

One 2019 study found that goat’s milk formulas appear to mimic human breast milk more closely as they contain a similar prebiotic profile.

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 is approved by the European Union but not yet approved by the FDA. It’s important to note that the European Commission’s standards for food products can be even stricter than FDA standards.

HiPP’s Dutch Goat Stage 1 formula is designed for babies from birth to 6 months old. HiPP’s goat stage 2 formula is designed for babies between 6 months and 12 months old.

While no formula can completely mimic the unique composition of human breast milk, goat milk has some features that make it similar to goat’s milk. For example, goat milk has naturally higher levels of prebiotics, which are also found in breast milk.

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 formula is safe as it is organic, and free of GMOs, refined sugars such as corn syrup, artificial preservatives, pesticides, and hormones. All of HiPP’s formulas are made with strict manufacturing and safety protocols in place. They are also required to meet the European Commission’s standards for food products, which is arguably stricter than FDA standards.
